Although I have yet to meet Chuck and Jen Pappas in person, Jen and I have shared many emails. She stepped in to help get the word out for the business I am starting, and help me find funding/supporters despite the fact that we have only met through emails. After becoming online buddies, I noticed the ‘Walk for Chuck Pappas’ links. So I decided to see what that was about. The story really touched my heart.

Jen’s husband Chuck Pappas, a young, compassionate man, has a particularly aggressive form of brain cancer. Two surgeries and a lifesaving emergency flight to Rochester have created a massive medical bill. Chuck will be unable to work for an undetermined amount of time, and he has fallen between the gaps in US health care.

Chuck worked at Farm Sanctuary prior to his diagnosis, and Jen still works there. They are active animal rescuers, and started their own small sanctuary in Newfield. Unfortunately they were unable to care for the animals after the diagnosis, but wonderful homes have been found for their animal friends.

Rescuing half a dozen ducks from a dumpster to saving pigs from being shot by law enforcement officers for frantically trying to escape death by drowning, makes Chuck Pappas a true hero and a worthy recipient of the $500 Pay It Forward donation. My $10 and my partner’s $10 will help to pay an installment on their medical expenses. I am asking friends and family to pool together and donate to Chuck, too. The additional $500 donation will not only relieve some of the financial burden, but undoubtedly will raise their spirits knowing that there is such a loving and supportive community. In addition, the financial situation is only adding to the amount of stress a couple goes through during a life threatening condition, so in a way this will be ‘financial healing’. This $500 would allow Chuck and Jen time to focus on the ever important rest and quality time with each other.

In a way this Pay It Forward nominee is a ‘pay it forward’ already. Not having met, I received support and encouragement for my new business from Chuck and Jen, and I am giving back! So thank you Chuck and Jen, I look forward to meeting you, and hope you receive the $500 donation you need and deserve!
