Why is my credit union doing this?
Alternatives is a credit union. But we’re also a member-owned cooperative and a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI).
That means you don’t just bank here.
You own the place.
And we’re built on a pretty simple idea: people should have a voice in the things that affect them.
Money doesn’t exist in a bubble. Neither do you. The decisions shaping our communities can shape our financial lives, too.
So we’re here to connect the dots, share reliable information and make it easier to participate.

Your county Board of Elections is where you’ll find polling places, early voting locations, sample ballots and other local election information.
So… who represents me?
Voting is one way to use your voice. Knowing who is making decisions — and how to reach them — is another. Find the people representing you locally, in Albany and in Washington.
You can email them. Call them. Ask questions. Tell them what’s happening in your community. Tell them what matters to you.
You don’t need to be an expert to speak up.
Want to do more?
Voting matters. But it’s not the only way to show up.
Learn your rights. Help someone make a voting plan. Become a poll worker. Find out who’s making decisions that affect you — and tell them what you think. You don’t have to do everything. Pick something that matters to you. Start there.

Credit unions asked members to speak up when their federal tax status was being debated.
So… what happened?
Credit unions kept their federal income tax status in the final legislation. The issue could come up again. We’ll keep paying attention. If members need to speak up again, we’ll let you know.
